Monday Muse: Audrey Hepburn

One of my favorite ways to pull inspiration for my outfits, home design, etc., is by other people. Some would think of this as copying or not having ideas of your own, but I think that it is impossible to not take inspiration from something. Today for the first installment of Monday Muse, a new series where I will look at people or things that inspire me most, I am taking a look at my rock and role mode, Audrey Hepburn (surprising right). I think it's an understatement to say that I love her... I mean I named my blog after her parents for heaven sakes (even though she hated her father and had an unaffectionate but loving mother doesn't dim the light on the fact that without them, I wouldn't have my girl). It would be a lie to say that I don't cry at certain pictures of her. I literally know so much about her, have seen every movie she's been it, read the majority of her biographies, repinned and saved every picture I've come across. I accredit all of my strengths to her, and some of my weaknesses.. She was the most loving, stylish, beautiful, iconic, memorable, sincere, generous person I have ever heard of who just wanted to be loved, but most of all, give it. I always carry a little piece of her in my heart because I feel as if we have similar back stories and passions (not to mention we are almost the exact same size!!! Minus the 20 in waistline of course..). I don't know what I would do without the guidance of my mentor and life coach, and will never find another person in the world who will have the same affect on me as she has. No one will EVER be able to emulate the style, grace, love, or any other positive adjective of this beautiful woman, and I pray to God every night to let me be in Heaven with his most beautiful angel.

Here is just a small collection of my favorite pictures of her. I love the ones that show her completely and utterly happy, as well as her natural, distinct, odd, rare beauty. Oh I love her so.

Sea What I Can Do

I usually can hold myself up until the end of the school year, but not this year. I can not wait for this school year to be over. It might have something to do with all of my best friends leaving next year for college and leaving me alone to suffer in high school. So as I catch myself day-dreaming about summer getaways in exotic places, I also fantasize about all of the amazing clothes I will be wearing (or the clothes I won't be wearing ie., bathing suits only). Here are some of the beach babes I will hopefully be emulating this summer.

I love how happy and cheerful all of these girls are. Brigette Bardot with her cheetah, that woman with the awesome hat and precious dog (an accessory anyone can have), a woman from the 20s with an inflatable zebra, and five friends on the beach playing leap frog. They all look so happy, which is why all of these women are my inspiration for summer fun and embracing every minute with my friends and family. And last but not least Kate the Great. On a rock in the middle of the ocean.. In a gown.. Nothing else.

I'm Feeling: Ruffled Bell Sleeves

The picture of the man above may be a little deceiving and you might be wondering why a bald man from the colonial era is part of my inspiration. Well, it's neither the man nor his lopsided hat I'm interested in, but his ruffled sleeves. I had this image in my mind and could not find where I knew it from. It took me about 30 minutes to find this picture, and it is still not exactly what I was thinking of. When I think of ruffled, bell-sleeves, I imagine a man who has thrown off his heavy, obtrusive coat and gone down to his "unspeakables" to duel his enemy for the love of his maiden. Wrong era probably, but I think that this simple little sleeve adds such an element of surprise and ornamentation to an already fancy-ish look. I also think of them being dainty lace. I just had an epiphany! Mid-type I realized that the look I was thinking of is from the 1600s, the Baroque Era. Especially in films, like Pirates of the Caribbean, can you see these little sleeves poke out of grand ball gowns. Even thought the baroque era is known already for their obviously baroque dresses, I opt to take my inspiration from something that is a little less glamorous and well known, like these rocking bell sleeves!
