Royal Ascot

It seems to be a part of my nature that I pick up something I love and totally fixate on it. Well my fixation of the moment is silk scarfs, earlier known as men's ascots (I couldn't resist). Quite a while ago I blogged about head scarves, but now I'm leaning towards the more traditional uses for the Très chic Parisian accessory. My cousin always wears her silk scarves tightly knotted around her neck and it always makes her look so cute. I also am obsessed with taking my scarves and tying them aroung my hand bag handles (although it's a little depressing when I realize it's not an Hermes scarf on my Birkin, but I digress). I'm also drawn towards tying them through my belt buckles like a belt and around a messy bun. Or you could always wear them like my Grandmommy and tie them around your head to block off the wind... Anyway, here's a look at some of my favorite ways to wear them.

Trend to Try: Ribbons

Can we flashback to age 5 when little girls took pride in picking out ribbons, or at least I did. I don't know if you've noticed, but I tend to go back to styles that kids use ie., frilly socks, ribbons, etc. It may be since I am only about ten years past said age that I condone dressing younger than you are (in moderation.. my moma drives a mini, doesn't wear one) or the fact that I still shop in the children sections. Even though ribbons may be seen as "preppy," I simply see them as lady like ways to amp up a simple pony tail. I find alternate ways to use the pieces of fabric such as tying them on handbags and replacing ankle straps with them, usually doubling them to get a sort of gladiator sandal look. I will always think of them as cheap ways to add color and patterns to any accessory, even if I'm borrowing them from the little girls that I babysit.

I usually do this, but with flats

Even though this is a scarf, I do the same thing with ribbons

Trend to *Master*: Cat Eyes

A cat with human eyes to suffice all stereotypes
Instead of the normal Trend to Try installment, I wanted to focus on something that I am a huge fan of. I have multiple pairs of cat eyes, ranging from Kate Spade to Target, but needless to say, they are my favorite shape of sunnies. As you all know, I have a rather larger face *insert picture here*, and not to mention, high, bushy eye brows that make it hard to find any glasses that cover my brows and balance out my macho face. The best kind that I have found are these little feline look alikes. My friends and family always always always say something about my gigantor glasses and make smart remarks, but I take them like I take every other fashion slander shot at me. Anywho, these are some of my favorite looks and the styles that I am currently coveting the most.

These Bobbi Brown sunnies are in the most precious color and style that doesn't scream 1950s housewife.
Bobbi Brown, 149.00

I love the gold accents on the top of these classic shades
Dior, 310.00

You can do no wrong with a pair of classic, black cat eyes, but this shape is new and ingenuous

If I could have one thing right now, it would be these Prada sunnies! They are so wild and crazy in the front, and then rather normal on the side. Obsessed in every respect. They also come in red and turquoise.
Prada, 310.00

Speaking of 1950s housewife. Gold ala mode.
Tom Ford, 380.00

These come right below my beloved Prada sunnies. These just look like something that Wonder Woman would wear, and us girls can always go for a little strong femme touch.

Head to Toe

Remember those frilly little socks you used to wear as a little girl to go to church in? Why did we ever stop wearing those? I am so in love with socks and heels, especially a pair of chunky platforms.  My favorite example of socks and heels is in Mr. Bean's Holiday (I told you Sabine was flawless). In the movie scene where she is a waitress in a little french village, she comes out in sky-high platforms with socks and they are so chic and effortless. Even though it is getting warmer outside, I still think that this would look cute with a romper or pair of denim cut offs, but I would choose to wear this in the fall/winter so that I could wear my favorite shoes and keep my little digits warm (in a couple of years when it is socially acceptable for me to wear heels..).

I love playing with patterns, textures, and color and I think this would be a fun way to experiment with your style. These are some other shoes that I would want to pair with socks.
