The Mod Squad
If there's one thing that I always try to be, it's experimental. I try to try everything at least once, even if that means looking like a complete idiot. One trend that I have only tried a couple of times, with miscellaneous gridded shirts or boxy shirts is the mod trend. I have been obsessed with this since Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs both mastered with their boxy, gridded, graphic colored pieces (not to mention the subdued beehives), so thank you Marc! Valentino had a mod-ish look in their Fall 2014 show, which I loved the shapes and colors! I love the take on shapes, color, and the attention to the no-figure shape, which is one reason I love the twenties for its drop waist style. But, instead of being a slinky, drop waist, the dresses are boxy shifts which are so cute and remind me of Audrey in Breakfast, and her later on in the decade. I also love other sixties icons like Twiggy (that's a given), Jane Birkin, and Edie Sedgwick. Not to mention the awesome pixie cuts, which I wish I could pull off, but I guess I'll have to stay with boxy shifts for now.

I'm Feeling: Snakeskin
A common theme in fashion is that "beauty is pain." Well I've coined a new mantra for myself and my style aesthetic. "Style is about conquering your fears." That fear that I am talking about snakeskin. I shudder anytime I even hear the "s" word, which is why it's ironic I am coveting snakeskin. As we have heard for a while, cheetah is a neutral, well now I am toying with the option of snakeskin as an option. A bag covered in the print will update a classic white shirt and jeans or a patterned dress with heels and a leather jacket. It graced the Fall Runways in an array of shoes, bags, and accessories. Take a look at some of my favorite looks of the trend.

Made to Order
After watching the Fall 2014/2015 Chanel show, food has been hot on my mind. I find myself going to the grocery store and hoping that when I walk in the shelves will be fully stocked with Laite de Coco and Chanel meatpacking, but every time I end up being disappointed. Karl wasn't the only person who had food on his mind. Jeremy Scott for Moschino had models walking out with trays and bags adorned in the golden arches of McDonald's transformed to look like the label's own fast food logo. Scott also sent ball gowns with cheeze-its down the runway for his debut show at the fashion house. Who knew that food could be so fashionable? As I'm typing this now I find that my hunger is increasingly growing, so until next time my fellow fashionites.. Join me for a late night snack (and wishing it was designer).

Game Changer
Is it reasonable to say that man's version of fashion month is March Madness? Paying homage to this, I will be taking a look at the literal "sportswear" trend. The first football jersey dress, which happened to be sequined, was created by Geoffrey Beene in 1967. You can see a spread in Harper's Bazaar from the same year that shows the gowns. This is where Tom Ford got his inspiration for some of the sequined mini dresses in his Fall 2014 collection. Another designer joining him on this trend was Jeremy Scott, who turned to a furrier version in multiple colors. Before these two designers, Tommy Hilfiger took a whack at basketball looking jerseys rather than football for Spring 2014. Although they are great looks on the runway, I love the way that girls on the street take this and turn it into their own. Whether it be an old hand-me-down from their brother or a football jersey adorning "Celine," you can accomplish this look in almost anyway. My favorite way so far is with a jersey dress and a pair of sexy, strappy sandals. This mix of feminism with the roughness of the sportswear is effortlessly sexy. There is a lot of wiggle room with this trend, so you can achieve it through jerseys, sneakers, letter jackets, or sports caps (just no helmets please, imagine the helmet hair). Speaking of letter jackets, I just got my varsity letter for basketball yesterday, and I am constantly thinking of how I can translate it into my style and make it my own. There boys, are you happy? Fashion and sports can go together.

Side Work
One of the coolest things a girl can wear is a killer coat. Not to mention the way it is worn is pretty important, too. Recently it seems as if 'the fashion troops' who take on the snowy, slushy streets of New York, London, Milan, or Paris, are not willing to put their arms through their coats. I have always worn my jackets like this, replicating my grandmommy, who nonchalantly rests them off her shoulders so that they won't get dirty or fall off her chair into the floor. Well I've started to recognize a new way girls are starting to wear their coats, off of one shoulder. I'm not sure if it is a fashion statement or if the camera caught them during a large gust of wind, but I think I like it! It says "It may be 15 degrees, but I have a major outfit on, and I want you to see all of it," well maybe just one side. This look is taking a jab at Mother Nature telling her to move on and out so that we can start wearing the new, chic trends for spring!
I love how Susie Bubble is working her colorful Shrimps fur on one shoulder, and her Reece Hudson backpack on the other.

Emilia Wickstead A/W 2014
I don't care what anyone says, the Brits do everything the best. British style is definitely my favorite, and today, on the second day of London Fashion Week, I am a proud anglophile. Our neighbors across the pond are having their jab at fashion week, and I am applauding their every move. When I checked style.com this morning for the newest shows, I was screaming when I saw one of my favorite designers, Emilia Wickstead, had just shown her show. As always, she showed her signature voluminous skirt in one color, as well as suits in the same color. Some of my favorite looks were the snakeskin coat and the leather over coat. I just love how she can manipulate such simple ideas but make them special in the details. Take a peak at some of my favorite looks.
I am absolutely obsessed with gloves and socks with heels, and this is an ideal take on two of my favorite trends.
The print of this coat is gorgeous and the neckline is so chic.
That coat! And that skirt!
There it is again, and I love the color of that jumpsuit.
This is the type of dress I would wear on the red carpet.
This coat is MAJOR! *sigh*
Absolutely obsessed with this look. The emerald color of the gloves translates perfectly against the snakeskin print.
A leather undershirt? Brilliant.
I could live in this. A mohair jacket, chic white dress (perfect length), and metallic heels. Heaven.
All white everything.. except the shoes. I want a white stole!

Anticipation
Unless you are a southerner, you don't know what it's like to anticipate snow. A good snow at that. Here in Asheville, the weather is so bipolar that one day it is 60 degrees, and the next it's 27 with an inch of snow (hey that is a lot for around here). But right now they are calling for 8-10 inches! I hope it does so I can sit inside all day with a never-ending cup of tea, analyzing that day's fashion shows. Speaking of all of this snow, it makes me wish that I was in the Swiss Alps skiing with Regina Lampert in "Charade". That is where today's inspiration comes from, the queen herself Miss Audrey Hepburn.
I love the way that Givenchy has her in a full fur outfit, not counting the chic brown leggings. If only I had the courage to wear a fur hat in the winter. Since I've been glued to any electronic device that this past week looking at fashion week, I'm starting to see a little pattern in the Fall 2014 shows. Fur accessories. Don't get me wrong, a fur coat is flawless, if executed the right way, but I do think that it can be a little over killed. A fur clutch or scarf is subtle yet unexpected, a contradiction which I think will go a long way. Here's a look at some of my favorite snap shots from the runway.
